Become an adult they said. It will be fun they said… not sure who made the decision that we have to grow up and start taking responsibility for ourselves and living our own lives. Alas, this is inevitable and there really isn’t much we can do about it. What we can do, is find super innovative and cool ways to help manage adulthood and be rewarded for some of the most painful adult like things we have to do, like paying our bills. That’s right, you can actually turn your bills into (free) rewards.

I was recently introduced to Paytm, a mobile app that rewards you with points when you pay your bills. Now I know what you’re thinking, “why the hell didn’t I think of that!”? This is legit genius, so much so, that I’m almost mad I haven’t been using it longer! Thinking of all the wasted points that I could have been collecting over the months and years actually hurts my soul. Never the less, I can rest easy knowing I am now being rewarded for all my current and future payments thanks to Paytm

So, you’re probably wondering, how does this work exactly? If you’re good with apps I’d say it’s safe to skip the rest of this and go download it, as it’s actually quite simple and straight forward. If you’re not so sure, then do not panic, as I’m here to break it down for you and highlight a few key features:

  1. Paytm is an app that you download from either the Google Play Store or the App Store. Creating a profile is very straightforward and the design is extremely user friendly. It operates very smoothly and is visually appealing, clean, and bright.

  2. Once you have downloaded the app, you can start adding your bills and credit card companies to the app. The app reminds you when your bills are due and can even give you insights about monthly reporting while tracking trends month over month alerting you of any major increases or issues that seem uncommon. Taking it one step further, turn on the Set it & Forget it Feature and have the app auto pay your bills for you! You simply pre-select the date, amount and frequency that you want to pay it and the app will pay your bills. Perfect whether you’re at home or travelling as you never have to worry about missing a bill payment again!

  3. The home page allows you to see potential reward providers and your categories for accepted bills. They list a fair amount of common bill providers that fall under mobile, utilities, taxes, credit cards, insurance, internet, cable, education, rent, auto, investments and loans.

  4. When you pay your bills through the app, you get points and can apply these points to their reward providers such as Uber, Best Buy, and Starbucks. You can also apply these points for Paytm cash and use this “cash” to pay future bills, buy a rewards card, or even send money nationwide. Now we’re talking!

  5. Just when you thought it couldn’t get any better… if you pay your bills with your credit card, you are able to collect incentives offered by your credit card provider, while accumulating Paytm Points on those same expenditures, effectively doubling your rewards. Now that is a truly a win-win.

I have to admit, I have a bit of a soft spot for Paytm. It combines my old profession of accounting, with my new, mobile tech. As an entrepreneur and Founder in the tech space, I have great respect for an invention that makes our lives easier and provides serious value to its customers. This is an app I actually use and have found that it does make a difference in paying my bills. I can’t believe I’m going to say this, but it almost makes paying bills somewhat exciting. Bring on the points and free Uber rides!
